Even from the start, the brand name Steinhausen was already marked for success, for achievement. All that is thanks to Ulrich Van Heusen of Switzerland in the beginning of the 1900s. You can say that Van Heusen was true to the remarkable heritage shared by a good number of Swiss craftsmen; Ulrich Van Heusen was a revered watchmaker. And like all the first-rate watchmakers during this era, he was a watchmaker who is also an inventor, architect and an engineer, who continuously improvise his create to achieve perfection. And in 1923, Ulrich Van Heusen created his first masterpiece, his original automatic calendar watch, a mechanical pocket watch that displays the time, month and week.

During this era, this was no mere feat. Clockworks that oscillate in three instances, one each for the time, week and month are very complicated that it also made mechanical watches prohibitively expensive to the common folk. And in 1928, Ulrich Van Heusen found himself creating watches for an elite group, a small business that would soon grow in proportions. The engineering that Ulrich Van Heusen had made had begun making repercussions the world had started to feel.

From one-man watchmaker business, his boys then joined Ulrich Van Heusen. Output began to steadily grow and selection became to widen as well. Now aside from the mechanical calendar clock, chronographs, multi designed watches (skin line and transparent watches) and ladies watches were added into the repertoire. And the Van Heusen clients began to include noble houses and even to the royalty itself. And so began the odyssey of the Steinhausen watches, that started as early as 1930. From Monte Carlo to Russia, Steinhausen was selling to kings, czars, generals, and emperors.
